Working of Second
Copy 2000 |

By
default Second Copy 2000 starts when you login on Windows. While it is
idle in the background, an icon for Second Copy 2000 in the System
Tray appears. By clicking on this icon main Second Copy 2000 window
will be opened. |

Second Copy organizes
user’s backup needs in a set of profiles. Each profile is a set of
file and folder specifications, which tell Second Copy, what files
user wants to copy, where to copy these files, and when. Once
configured, Second Copy monitors the "source" folders for changes or
updates & copies new or changed files to the "destination"
automatically at the scheduled time. To create a new profile where
user can specify what files to copy, where to copy them, etc. user
need to click on the File menu. |

Creating New Profile
|
|
Once user click on the
File menu, select New Profile to create a new profile. Second Copy
2000 is provided with an easy to use profile wizard that will guide
through creating a new profile. This setup is separated into two modes
- Express and Custom modes. |

Express Setup |
|
In Express mode, you
answer three simple questions (what, where and when) about the files
to be backed up. Advanced users can use the Custom setup option to
define specific files to be included in or excluded from the copy.
They can also choose how the files are to be copied, e.g. compression,
synchronization etc. |

|
There are several advanced
options for the profile user can set. When user selects Custom setup,
there are several copy modes to define how user would like to copy
files such as Simple Copy, Exact Copy, Compress, Synchronize, etc. The
copy mode can be selected from the "How?" tab of the profile's
properties. |

Advanced Properties |
|
In
Custom setup there are several Advanced Properties available for the
profile. These advanced properties can be set from the "How?" tab.
Advanced Properties let user set the options for copying, define
compression ratio, set external program or batch files to run before
and after the profile is run, selection of the hardware profile, as
well as the selection of the Dialup networking that lets user login to
a remote server using the Windows Dial-up Networking. Second Copy 2000
also has a built-in feature that lets user auto-login to the remote
server. |

Viewing the Log
|
|
Second Copy logs the
activity of the profiles in a log file. This log file can be viewed
from the main window by clicking on the Show Log icon or by clicking
on View Log from the menu bar. The log lists what files were copied,
where they were copied, and when they were copied. It also lists any
errors encountered during the copying process. |

The first time a profile is run,
Second Copy copies all the selected files and folders from the
source to the destination. The next time the profile is run, if the
destination already has the files that have the same date and time
stamp as that of the source, Second Copy does not copy those files
again. It only copies new and changed files. (Although user can
change this default setting) |
